Witch of the Woods Pitcher

This pitcher was made by wedging wild clay and feldspar into the clay before firing it, and after firing the feldspar rose out of the clay in white raised spots. Wood-soda fired in a catenary arch kiln nicknamed "chicken cat", this set harnesses natures elements fully - water and earth in the making process, fire in the finishing process and air in the 2 week cooling process. This piece fired in a wood-fueled kiln for 6 days, and no glaze was applied to pot before firing, only a liner glazed interior to ensure it holds liquids. All surface color and decoration you see is from melted wood ash and soda ash, and materials within the clay coming to the surface through the alchemical process of firing. Magic, right? ✨
